This FRIDAY (7/22) — GARY HOEY “Dust & Bones” CD Release Party ..
“Officially” it’s not being released until July 29th on Provogue/Mascot Label Group, but we are going to a preview and maybe the chance to get a copy prior to the release date. That’s very cool. GARY HOEY returns in concert at CALLAHAN’S This FRIDAY (7/22.) Advance Tickets are on sale now and available by CLICKING HERE.
From GARY’s website — Looking towards his 20th album release Hoey shares, “This is where I belong—playing this ferocious blend of blues and rock music. My last album, Deja Blues, proved to myself that I could play authentic blues, and now that I feel more at home there, I felt it was time to mix my favorite guitar styles into something seamless, organic, and powerful.”
Released through Mascot Label Group, Dust & Bones showcases Hoey’s Fender Stratocaster-driven fury alongside open-D-tuned resonator guitars plugged into half-stacks. The massive sonic attack was essential for paying sincere and appropriate homage to some of Hoey’s influences, such as Johnny Winter (“Steamroller”), Robin Trower (“This Time Tomorrow”), and Brian Setzer (“Who’s Your Daddy”), as well as a thrill-a-minute mash up of Robert Johnson meets Led Zeppelin (“Boxcar Blues”). There’s also a classic power ballad (“Coming Home”) where Lita Ford and Gary sing a duet.

Our Album of 2016 — “The Beautiful Lowdown” by CURTIS SALGADO
It’s less than half over, but we think we’ve found our album over the year. With a career more than 40+years, CURTIS SALGADO is no new comer. We knew he had soul, but his latest album is as close to perfection as it gets. Soaked with soul, drenched in the blues, funky with a little reggae/ska “The Beautiful Lowdown” is a modern-treasure and something we just don’t get sick listening too.
The disc is his second for Alligator and the follow up to “Soul Shot” which captured teh 2013 BMA for Soul Blues Album of the Year. The same year he captured the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award validating his incredible career which has included inspiring John Blueshi’s “Joilet Jake” character, fronting the Robert Cray band, and touring with Santana and Steve Miller.
We are excited to be hosting his Alligator CD Release Party for the album at CALLAHAN’S on WED – June 15th. Take a listen and grab some tickets for the soul party of the year via www.ATCALLAHANS.com.
The Beautiful Lowdown is a major step forward for SALGADO. “I wanted to write memorable songs with strong melodies that stick to you, and that’s what’s here.” He arrived at the studio with 17 originals and whittled the list down to 11, adding Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s Hook Me Up to close the set. Each track—from the Van Morrison-esque Nothing In Particular to the funk grooves of My Girlfriend to the driving Hard To Feel The Same About Love to the reggae-tinged Simple Enough—is delivered with the vocal power and passion of a musical master. Living Blues says, “SALGADO navigates dynamic soul, swaying balladry, and funky grooves with equal confidence. He is a formidable performer.”
